“Logos are images, texts, shapes, or a combination of the three that depict the name and purpose of a business”——https://www.tailorbrands.com
Why are studio logos important?
Studio logos are important because they’re visual so it’s usually the first things you recognise when you see a studio. People nowadays have very short attention spans so therefore, it is important that they are eye catching and able to grab attention. A good studio logo could create a strong first impression and make the studio memorable to people which would separate it from other competitors. This would therefore help them to attract more potential costumers/audience.
The studio logo is also the foundation of the brand identity. It helps illustrating some kind of story that could influence the consumer/audience with its colors, fonts, pictures, etc. The audience expects that they are on everything produced by and related to the studio.
Which production companies, and studios, are ‘known’ for making Thriller films?
A lot of companies and studios, like Warner Bros Entertainment, Lionsgate Flim, Universal Studios, Columbia Pictures, DreamWorks Studios, Paramount Pictures, GMM Tai Hub, etc., produce thrillers because it is a very favorable genre of film. However, they are not ’known’ for making thrillers because there are a lot of other genres that they produce.
Blumhouse Productions is a company that is famous for their thriller films. In 2017, the films “Happy Death Day”, “Split”, “Get Out” in order received 1.14 , 2.78, 2.53 hundred million dollars. Other famous films that they produced include”The Purge“, “Insidious”, “Sinister”, “Paranormal Activity”, ”Unfriended: Dark Web”, “Sharp Objects”, “Truth or Dare”, In a Valley of Violence”, ”Hush”, ”The Gift”, “Dark Skies”, etc. Many of these films released sequel because they’re so popular.

The logo of the Blumhouse clearly added elements of thriller and horror films. The tone is very dark and it uses a neon green color, which is a symbol for queer and creepiness, for its text. The name ”Blumhouse productions” with a reverse colored ”H” is painted onto a corner of the wall and lit by a single lightbulb on the top of a old and out of use room…etc.
DISNEY LOGO
The Walt Disney Company is found on October 16, 1923. The first logo used in 1923-1926 is called the “Disney Bros. Studio“ and it has been edited and changed for many times over the years. It wasn’t until 1937 that it changed to “Walt Disney” and it was designed from Walt Disney’s personal handwriting. There were no big changes afterwards from the signature except making the letters more recognizable and it is still used till today with different versions of it used by Disney’s different subsidiaries.

The logo changed because it wasn’t very iconic at the beginning, there were no visual information given. To attract audience and consumers, Disney needs to present its wonder ,magic, and fantasy in its logo. So in 1985, on top of its fancy font, they had another version of their logo where they added the Cinderella/sleeping beauty castle onto the original text “Walt Disney”. The logo is a very simple graphic that only has two colors present—usually white on blue/blue on white—which symbolizes Disney’s simplicity. It could be seen that this design was very successful and it has not changed a lot later on. Animation of the castle is now the symbol at the start of all Disney movies, however, it changes its style as the movies have different storylines.

The general logo

Logos that were modified in different films
The logos are not only used in the beginning of films, it is also a brand identity of Disney where they print on all of its stores and products. You could see a Disney logo with the castle or only the word on all of the goods sold in their theme parks including toys, food, furnitures, etc.
THIS IS MY OWN LOGO
SUMMARY
I‘ve learned that logos are very important in stating the studio/company’s identity and it’s very important that they could make the audience remember the studio/company. Good logos are usually not complicated and only has a few colors, they also are made to represent the studio/company wants to tell the audience.
